Reston Runners Community Fund (RRCF)

In 2012 the Reston Runners Board decided to further the Club's mission of "encouraging fitness" by establishing a Community Fund. This Community Fund is used to grant scholarships and other worthwhile donations to local students, schools, and community organizations. The Fund is a separate and distinct non-profit corporation whose funds will not be comingled with the Club's general revenue. The Fund seeks to establish revenues from a wide variety of sources, including tax-deductible contributions from its members. Its governing organization includes both members of the Reston Runners Board of Directors and members of the community.

Help us continue and expand our efforts by making a tax-deductible donation: DONATE TO RRCF

If you have a suggestion for RRCF support, please contact the RRCF board at RRCF@restonrunners.org.

Providing Scholarships to Student Athletes

In April 2026, the Reston Runners Community Fund was pleased to award the $4,000 Tim Cohn Scholarship, given in memory of Reston Runner and scientist Tim Cohn, to Anya Moon. Anya is an outstanding student at South Lakes High School, an IB candidate, a soccer player and a runner. She will attend American University.

We also awarded the $1,000 Reston Runners Community Fund Scholarship to three other outstanding student-athletes:
Thomas Dilli is an AP and honors student at Herndon High School and has run cross country and track and field all four years. Thomas will attend James Madison University.
Jensen Hoffman is the Cross Country and Track team captain at Herndon High School and is an AP and honors student. He plans to be an architect.
Ryan Quinn is a distance runner at South Lakes High School, All-State and All-American, and is the boys’ distance team captain. He will attend James Madison University.

Congratulations to the winners! And thanks to all the runners, volunteers and fundraisers who helped make these scholarships possible.

Supporting youth running and fitness in our community

In addition to granting scholarships to local student-athletes, RRCF responds to requests from schools who need additional resources to serve the needs of their students in running and fitness programs. It is our goal to make running and fitness accessible to all!

Some of the programs we have supported in the past few years include:

Herndon Middle School Cross Country Team

Supporting Herndon Middle School students to develop the running skills they need to in high school and beyond.

After-school soccer at Forest Edge Elementary School

The after-school soccer club was able to purchase new soccer balls, calf protectors, badges, and keyrings, enabling 16 students from 5th and 6th grade to participate in their positive play initiative.

The running program at Dogwood Elementary School

Dogwood Elementary School has an ambitious goal for their students to run 100 miles over the course of the year! They culminate their program with a celebratory color run.

Girls on the Run at Hutchison Elementary School

This program encourages girls’ self-esteem and fitness through a fun running program with a 5K race at the end of their training.
